A car-sharing club for Anstruther?

As part of the Developing Car Clubs in Scotland programme, Carplus Trust, in partnership with a group of residents is carrying out a survey to find out what people in and around Anstruther think about having access to a local Car-sharing Club.

Please complete the survey to register your interest

How would it work?

It would start with a two-car scheme with cars located centrally in Anstruther. A small fuel efficient hatchback would be available for booking at any time – for business trips, appointments and social use. A larger people carrier (MPV) would also be available for booking by Car-sharing Club members in the evening, at weekends and during public holidays. During the working day this would be booked out by members who are part of a commuter ride-sharing group and who work in St Andrews and Dundee.

What will it cost?

Less than the cost of owning and maintaining a car! Occasional users will pay about £3.50 per hour (plus mileage charges to pay for fuel use) or about £4.00 per hour for the people carrier for short-term hiring.

A monthly subscription package could bring costs even lower for regular users (e.g. around £30 per month for 5 to 6 hours a week).

For regular ride-sharers the cost would be about £5 return to and from Dundee.

Who can join?

Most people with a full driving licence who are over 20 with at least a year’s driving experience.

How do you pay and who would operate it?

You will get a monthly bill for the trips made in the previous month, which should be paid within 14 days.
It would be run by a co-operative or not-for-profit company working in partnership with an established, accredited car club operator.
