Recent growth at Knowles Hill School has
seen the school population increase to 1,200 as more pupils travel from
further afield. Pupils helped conduct travel surveys, as part of their
Geography syllabus, which have fed into the school travel plan. They were
asked how they travelled to school and how they would prefer to travel. Staff,
governors and local councillors joined with pupils in a launch event for the
travel plan, which was well supported by the local press. The plan's action
points include developing car share schemes for both staff and pupils, with a
target of reducing single car occupancy by 20% and simultaneously reducing
pupil desire to travel to school by car by encouraging sustainable transport
in school assemblies.
